How to Prepare Tasty Algerian Tlitli

Algerian Tlitli. Tlitli is a traditional Algerian dish, originally from the eastern part of the country, based on traditional pasta called "tlitli" or bird's tongue. You can substitute commercial orzo pasta in this dish, if you like. This dish is prepared in white or red sauce.

Algerian Tlitli You can make tli tli with chicken or meat - the meat recipe is slightly different & I will post it later. You can use any tiny pasta for this but traditionally homemade tli til pasta OR orzo / bird's tongue that is used. My kids love it when I use the tiny stars or shells also. You can cook Algerian Tlitli using 8 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Algerian Tlitli

  1. You need of Tlilti pasta.
  2. You need of Tomato paste.
  3. It's of Red ball pepper/scotch bonnet.
  4. Prepare of Onions.
  5. Prepare of Oil.
  6. You need of Curry, coriander.
  7. Prepare of Smokes fish.
  8. It's cubes of Seasoning.

In the West, it's often referred to as birds tongue but in Algeria, we call it tlitli. Tliti is served as a pasta-like dish with either red or white sauce, chickpeas, green chillies, boiled eggs and tender pieces of white or red meat (or both).

Algerian Tlitli step by step

  1. Toss tlitli in oil and stir fry for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a pot add oil, sliced onions, tomato paste, and ground peppers. Fry for 5 minutes.
  3. Add water, smoked fish, spices and seasoning cubes.
  4. When it boils add the tlitli and cook on low heat for about 15 minutes. Serve with potato and meat curry..
